I’m definitely a dog lover so when I was bitten badly on August 18 of 2014, it was quite a shock.  The wound was over 2 inches long and an inch deep.  I was thankful it was a clean slice and not puncture wounds, and that my artery was not severed.  I was very lucky!

Since it happened at 6 am on a Monday morning, and I am the only driver in the house, I was in trouble.  I cleaned the wound and immediately poured Fucoidan juice directly into the cut. The sensation was moderate burning that lasted about 10 minutes.  I also did the only thing I could do without steri-strips – I used clear packing tape to close the wound. Because my immediate concern was to stop the bleeding, I did not stop to take photos.

Later that day I changed the dressing, applied steri-strips and redressed with cotton pads soaked in brown seaweed juice and applied a bandage.  My friend, who is also a nurse, wanted me to go to the ER for stitches but I explained that the last dog bite I had seen that was closed with stitches had abscessed, which actually caused more tissue damage and had caused horrible scarring and disfiguration.  I reminded her of the injury two years ago to my leg and told her I was confident that my arm would be fine.

For the next five days, I kept the wound clean and covered with cotton pads soaked with the juice. The yellow areas in the photo are fatty tissue which I merely cleaned off before applying the brown seaweed extract and a dressing.

August 21, 2014

The following photo is the wound completely healed in only 6 days!  These 2 photos are two days apart!  If anyone were to ask me what I would want if I were stranded on a desert island, my answer would be brown seaweed!   Please continue to read my blog. The next post is about Stem Cells.  There is a lot of research on fucoidan, found in brown seaweed juice and stem cells going on all over the world.  It’s clear these researchers are on the right track!

What is regenerative medicine?

Regenerative medicine is a broad definition for innovative medical therapies that will enable the body to repair, replace, restore and regenerate damaged or diseased cells, tissues and organs. Scientists worldwide are engaged in research activities that may enable repair of damaged heart muscle after a heart attack, replacement of skin for burn victims, restoration of movement after spinal cord injury and regeneration of pancreatic tissue to produce insulin for people with diabetes. Regenerative medicine promises to extend healthy life spans and improve the quality of life by supporting and activating the body’s natural healing.

This broad field encompasses a variety of research areas including cell therapy, tissue engineering, biomaterials engineering, growth factors and transplantation science.

What is cell therapy?

The FDA defines cell therapy as, “The prevention, treatment, cure or mitigation of disease or injuries in humans by the administration of autologous, allogeneic or xenogeneic cells that have been manipulated or altered ex vivo.”1 The goal of cell therapy, overlapping with that of regenerative medicine, is to repair, replace or restore damaged tissues or organs.

Cell therapy may take the form of a stem cell transplant such as a hematopoietic cell transplant that is used to restore the blood and immune system of patients with leukemia, lymphoma or other blood disorders.

Activation of the body’s own immune system to fight cancer is referred to as adoptive immunotherapy. This type of cell therapy is most commonly used in the fight against cancer. One type of adoptive immunotherapy treatment artificially increases the number of T killer cells (a form of white blood cell) in the patient and involves collection of patient T cells, ex vivo expansion, then re-infusion to the patient. The result is an increase in the number of T cells and a stronger patient immune response to the cancer.

Regardless of the type of cellular therapy, production of the therapeutic product may require several complex techniques to alter or manipulate the cell. Cell engineering techniques may include:

•     Propagation of cells

•     Expansion of cells

•     Selection of cells

•     Pharmacological treatment of cells

•     Alteration of biological characteristics of cells

What are stem cells and why are they important?

A stem cell is a cell (either adult or embryonic) that is capable of indefinite renewal through cell division and retention of its generic or unspecialized state while at the same time maintaining its potential to give rise to daughter cells of a more specialized type.

Classification of stem cells as totipotent, pluripotent and multipotent describes the breadth of the stem cells’ ability to create specialized cell types. Stem cells represent a continuum or spectrum from embryonic stem cells to adult stem cells. The primary distinguishing factor is plasticity – the stem cell’s capacity to differentiate into multiple specialized cell types.

Totipotent stem cells are known as the “master” cells of the body because they have the capacity to differentiate into the 216 specialized cell types that comprise the human body plus the placenta. A fertilized egg is an example of a totipotent cell.

Pluripotent stem cells are highly versatile cells and can give rise to any specialized cell type in the body except those needed to develop a fetus. Embryonic stem cells are pluripotent.

Multipotent stem cells can give rise to several specialized daughter cells but are limited to the particular tissue, organ or physiological system of origin. For example, hematopoietic stem cells can produce many types of blood cells in the circulatory system but cannot differentiate into a brain cell. Hematopoietic stem cells are an example of adult stem cells and are multipotent. Stem cells from umbilical cord blood are also multipotent based on evidence to date.

Take a look at totipotent, pluripotent and multipotent stem cells as they relate to the human development continuum:

Stem Cell graphic

Scientists expect enormous benefits from stem cell research and anticipate that it will revolutionize the practice of medicine. Stem cells may even lead to the creation of healthy tissues and organs for replacement of damaged and diseased body parts. Basic research to understand cell differentiation and human development may lead to a greater understanding of how birth defects occur. Stem cells may also be used during development of traditional pharmaceuticals. Stem cells stimulated to differentiate into specialized liver cells could be used for toxicology screening during the evaluation of drug candidates. Although the clinical benefits of cell-based therapies are already being seen, unlocking the full potential of stem cells will take decades of dedicated research. With each day, we move closer to realizing the promises of cell therapy and regenerative medicine.

What are embryonic stem cells?

Embryonic stem cells are derived from embryos, specifically the inner cell mass of a blastocyst, a hollow ball of cells that forms approximately five days after conception. Embryonic stems cells are the most primitive stem cells and as a result contain the most long-term promise for novel cell therapies and tissue regeneration.

Embryonic stem cells are pluripotent, meaning they have the ability to differentiate into any of the 200-plus cell types required by the body. Understanding and controlling embryonic stem cell differentiation and growth will require years of intensive research. Growing these cells in the laboratory is a time-consuming and painstaking process. Scientists must monitor embryonic stem cells closely and provide constant care to ensure continued growth and prevent uncontrolled or spontaneous differentiation.

Most embryonic stem cells used for research today have been donated from excess blastocysts created during in-vitro fertilization. The University of Wisconsin-Madison presents fascinating images on their Stem Cell Research web site.

What are adult stem cells?

Adult (Somatic) stem cells are unspecialized cells that are found in different parts of the body and, depending on the source tissue, have different properties. Adult stem cells are capable of self-renewal and give rise to daughter cells that are specialized to form the cell types found in the original body part.

Adult stem cells are multipotent, meaning that they appear to be limited in the cell types that they can produce based on current evidence. However, recent scientific studies suggest that adult stem cells may have more plasticity than originally thought. Stem cell plasticity is the ability of a stem cell from one tissue to generate the specialized cell type(s) of another tissue. For example, bone marrow stromal cells are known to give rise to bone cells, cartilage cells, fat cells and other types of connective tissue (which is expected), but they may also differentiate into cardiac muscle cells and skeletal muscle cells (this was not initially thought possible).

Hematopoietic stem cells that give rise to all blood and immune cells are today the most understood of the adult stem cells. Hematopoietic stem cells from bone marrow have been providing lifesaving cures for leukemia and other blood disorders for over 40 years. Hematopoietic stem cells are primarily found in the bone marrow but have also been found in the peripheral blood in very low numbers. Compared to adult stem cells from other tissues, hematopoietic stem cells are relatively easy to obtain.

Mesenchymal stem cells are also found in the bone marrow. Mesenchymal stem cells are a mixed population of cells that can form fat cells, bone, cartilage and ligaments, muscle cells, skin cells and nerve cells.

Hematopoietic and stromal stem cell differentiation:4

Stem Cell bone marrow

Umbilical cord blood from newborns is a rich source of hematopoietic stem cells. Research has found that these stem cells are less mature than other adult stem cells, meaning that they are able to proliferate longer in culture and may contribute to a broader range of tissues. Research is ongoing to determine whether umbilical cord stem cells are pluripotent or multipotent and the extent of their plasticity.

Cord blood, which traditionally has been discarded, has emerged as an alternative source of hematopoietic stem cells for the treatment of leukemia, lymphoma and other lethal blood disorders. It has also been used as a life-saving treatment for children with infantile Krabbe’s disease, a lysosomal storage disease that produces progressive neurological deterioration and death in early childhood.

Regardless of the adult stem cells’ source – bone marrow, umbilical cord blood or other tissues – these cells are present in minute quantities. This makes identification, isolation, and purification challenging. Scientists are currently trying to determine how many kinds of adult stem cells exist and where they are located in the body.

Where do stem cells come from?

Multipotent stem cells for transplant from bone marrow were used experimentally from the 1950’s and 1960′s with the work of Thomas and Storb and others, leading to stem cell transplant in the 1970′s for hematologic malignancies. This work coined the term “stem cell.” The first human pluripotent cells were isolated in 1998 by Dr. James Thompson at the University of Wisconsin. These cells were isolated from excess embryos obtained from in-vitro fertilization clinics. Subsequently, scientists have isolated stem cells from a variety of adult tissues, but these are multipotent, not pluripotent.

Adult stem cells have been found in the bone marrow, peripheral blood and umbilical cord blood. More recently, scientists have found stem cells in fat, skeletal muscle, skin, blood vessels, retina, liver, pancreas and the brain. Adult stem cells are extremely rare and difficult to identify, isolate and purify.

How is cell therapy being used today and what are the potential uses in the future?

Bone marrow transplants have been used for the past 40 years to regenerate the blood and immune systems of patients with leukemia, lymphoma, severe aplastic anemia or inherited metabolic diseases. Unfortunately, the major limitation with allogenic bone marrow transplants is the availability of matched donors.

Stem cells from Umbilical Cord Blood (UCB) have emerged as an alternative to bone marrow transplants, providing an easily obtainable and readily available source of treatment. UCB transplants may result in a lower incidence of transplant complications, specifically graft-versus-host disease, common in patients receiving a transplant from an unrelated donor. UCB transplants also have less stringent requirements for donor matching compared to bone marrow transplants, increasing the likelihood that an appropriate donor can be found for patients. Until recently, UCB transplants were limited to pediatric patients due to the low cell stem cell dose. But in 2004, researchers demonstrated that combining stem cells from two UCB units could increase the cell dose to extend this lifesaving hematopoietic treatment to adult patients.

In addition to regenerating the blood and immune systems, scientists anticipate that stem cells will be used to replace damaged or diseased tissues and organs. Clinical trials are ongoing to repair scarred or dying heart muscle after a heart attack or during congestive heart failure. On-going research in diabetes is focused on understanding how stem cells might be trained to become the type of pancreatic islet cells that secrete needed insulin. Repair of debilitating spinal cord injuries is also a goal of researchers through the regeneration of neurons, myelin and nerve cells.

As basic research continues, researchers hope to learn how cells replicate and give rise to specialized daughter cells, which may provide insight into inborn cell errors that cause birth defects. Understanding cell signaling pathways can also provide clues to how stem cells are able to hone in on the site of injury to initiate repair of damaged or diseased tissues.

Harnessing stem cells for use as drug delivery systems is another goal of researchers. Stem cells may be able to bring chemotherapeutic agents directly to the targeted cancerous cells. Stem cells may also be used to generate liver cells or other tissues that can be used in screening new drug candidates for safety in pharmaceutical drug development. Using human cells and/or tissues may provide a better model for toxicology testing than the traditional animal models in use today.

Cancer vaccines, a type of adoptive immunotherapy, are in clinical trials for prostrate, breast, ovarian and colorectal cancers. Combining tumor cells from the patient with dendritic cells can lead to a vaccine that will seek out and destroy the cancerous cells. Other adoptive immunotherapies can artificially increase the number of T killer cells (a form of white blood cell) in a cancer patient. This involves collection of patient T cells, ex vivo expansion, then reinfusion to the patient. The result is an increase in the number of T cells and a stronger patient immune response to the cancer.

What obstacles must be overcome before these potential uses will be realized?

Before cell therapies move from basic research laboratories and into widespread use in the clinic, several technical obstacles must be overcome. Scientists must be able to:

• Understand and control the mechanism of turning undifferentiated cells into specialized cells. This involves identifying the complex signals needed to turn the genes on and off that initiate and govern the differentiation of cells.

• Identify, isolate and purify different adult stem cell types. Purified and/or expanded stem cells will be required for safe, efficacious treatments.

• Control the differentiation of stem cells to target cell types needed to treat disease such that sufficient quantities of the correct stem cell or differentiated cell can be generated for treatment.

• Learn to make stem cell transplants patient-compatible to avoid rejection by the immune system.

• Demonstrate clinical improvement and normal cell development and function once stem cells have been transplanted into the patient’s body. Stem cells must become integrated with the patient’s own tissues and learn to function as one of the patient’s natural body cells.

For the last year or so I have been researching STEM cells and organ regeneration. Recently great strides were made right here in Texas, at University of Texas Medical branch in Galveston by a team of researchers who took the skeleton of human lungs and  grew a new pair of lungs. This was incredible, mind-boggling news!

Well, stem cell research is happening all over the world and the more people studying and making these attempts the faster this new technique will come to fruition and the faster sick people can become whole and or at least have a better quality of life.

Stem cells

I want to share this today because I made this prediction months ago before the announcement was made about the team at University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) successfully regenerating a human organ and it’s something I KNEW would be possible once the right molecule – FUCOIDAN was discovered.

Well, that prediction has come true much sooner than I expected.   5 new studies were added in just a week….there are now 1145 studies on FUCOIDAN including the one below:

“Tissue Eng Part A. 2014 Apr;20(7-8):1285-94. doi: 10.1089/ten.TEA.2013.0149. Epub 2014 Feb 14.

Fucoidan promotes early step of cardiac differentiation from human embryonic stem cells and long-term maintenance of beating areas.

Somatic stem cells require specific niches and three-dimensional scaffolds provide ways to mimic this microenvironment. Here, we studied a scaffold based on Fucoidan, a sulfated polysaccharide known to influence morphogen gradients during embryonic development, to support human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) differentiation toward the cardiac lineage. A macroporous (pore 200 μm) Fucoidan scaffold was selected to support hESCs attachment and proliferation. Using a protocol based on the cardiogenic morphogen bone morphogenic protein 2 (BMP2) and transforming growth factor (TGFβ) followed by tumor necrosis factor (TNFα), an effector of cardiopoietic priming, we examined the cardiac differentiation in the scaffold compared to culture dishes and embryoid bodies (EBs). At day 8, Fucoidan scaffolds supported a significantly higher expression of the 3 genes encoding for transcription factors marking the early step of embryonic cardiac differentiation NKX2.5 (p<0.05), MEF2C (p<0.01), and GATA4 (p<0.01), confirmed by flow cytometry analysis for MEF2C and NKX2.5. The ability of Fucoidan scaffolds to locally concentrate and slowly release TGFβ and TNFα was confirmed by Luminex technology. We also found that Fucoidan scaffolds supported the late stage of embryonic cardiac differentiation marked by a significantly higher atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) expression (p<0.001), although only rare beating areas were observed. We postulated that absence of mechanical stress in the soft hydrogel impaired sarcomere formation, as confirmed by molecular analysis of the cardiac muscle myosin MYH6 and immunohistological staining of sarcomeric α-actinin. Nevertheless, Fucoidan scaffolds contributed to the development of thin filaments connecting beating areas through promotion of smooth muscle cells, thus enabling maintenance of beating areas for up to 6 months. In conclusion, Fucoidan scaffolds appear as a very promising biomaterial to control cardiac differentiation from hESCs that could be further combined with mechanical stress to promote sarcomere formation at terminal stages of differentiation.”

In my OPINION, these results are WHY we see incredibly fast healing in cases of Hepatitis-C, regeneration of skin in wounds such as mine that I have posted before and can be found on my blog at www.healinghandsmassages.com/blog and rapid changes in diabetes, COPD, arthritis, and countless other major health issues.  I have to say this or risk having someone from the FDA get the wrong impression but, the above study is by an INDEPENDENT, THIRD-PARTY RESEARCHER AND TEAM STUDYING THE EFFECTS OF FUCOIDAN WHICH JUST HAPPENS TO BE FOUND IN CERTAIN HEALTH PRODUCTS SUCH AS LIMU.

“Brown seaweed products are not drugs and have not been evaluated by the US FDA. They are simply dietary supplements and are not intended to diagnose, cure, or treat any illness or disease. While your body may experience amazing positive health responses when you feed it the right nutritional building blocks, and there is indeed reliable scientific evidence supporting the beneficial effect key ingredients of brown seaweed products have on the immune system, there is insufficient scientific evidence to support some of the specific therapeutic results reported by users of the product. We therefore promote brown seaweed products for their benefit on the immune system and improved dietary intake.”

This just makes me CRAZY!! I’ve wondered for a really long time about…Fibromyalgia. I’ve known a LOT of people whose lives were drastically diminished because of a cluster of symptoms that MIRROR hypothyroidism.

These two “disorders” are misdiagnosed at ALARMING RATES. Treatment should include a lifestyle change. Eating organic, NON-GMO, non-processed foods, considering going gluten free, eliminating breads and pastas or at least purchasing BROMIDE FREE products and using spaghetti squash as a substitute, exercise (swimming is a good choice), NO DIET OR ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS, natural desiccated thyroid (Armour) and Lugol’s or Iodoral supplementation and stress relief for starters.

Did you know that stress creates a cycle of breakdown in your body by affecting cortisol levels which leads to Adrenal Fatigue? This is a complex issue so I will be writing more…

Also, when it was discovered that stress does NOT cause stomach ulcers and in MOST CASES ulcers are the result of H. Pylori bacteria, the incidence of back problems suddenly rose drastically over the next few years! I had a copy of a book with all the statistics but it was lost in a fire…will be on the search for that very informative book.

Here some pointers to help YOUR back or any other pain.  Start by going to my Happiness page www.healinghandsmassages.com/happiness .  Scroll down until you find about 10 links with relaxation music. Find a quiet dark room (you can do this at night to sleep better). Lie still…you might want to use Lavender oil on your pillow or bathe in Lavender Epsom salts.

Next read…Chakra balancing at www.healinghandsmassages.com/massage

Practice S L O W rhythmic deep breathing! Place your middle and forefinger on each eye…press GENTLY to the back of your head for about 10-15 seconds…this puts pressure on a nerve and instantly relaxes you…..If you have back issues, don’t lie flat, instead….place a pillow or pillows under your lower legs…it will help blood flow to brain and heart and increase awareness but also relieve the anxiety….The deep breathing will increase O2 to your brain.

When you practice all this….find a simple word to say over and over…this is your mantra ~ mine is Orange….o r a n g e…start to THINK about relaxing…first your mouth….face….forehead…let it move down into your neck….shoulders…arms…and VISUALIZE the stress moving out of your fingertips….let the relaxation move down your torso….abdomen, hips, legs, ankles, feet….Visualize the stress leaving your toes…you’ll begin to see colors…these are healing….they may look like ripples…deep reds, greens or purples…blues…yellow….these are your energy fields opening up. These lights may be pin point at first but as you practice DEEP RELAXATION and meditation, the lights will grow more intense and pervasive.

Now imagine healing light flowing into your body through your fingertips and toes…the top of your head which is your Crown chakra. It is possible to heal your own body using good nutrition and these practices. Find someone trained in Reiki, massage and/or chakra balancing (I never had formal training in Chakras, but somehow knew innately what to do)…and was told by an Indian doctor friend I was the first person he knew who actually understood the significance and process.   (Maybe I was Indian in another life, who knows?)

LIMU Fire your Pharmacist

I started using brown seaweed in October 2012.  From Day 1…ground zero…I had results. The initial results were very subtle but noteworthy. My allergies cleared up immediately and the first night I slept so well and felt so rested the next day.  It was remarkable how much better I felt in just 24 hours. I had a tremendous feeling of well-being.

The second night…again I slept better than I have in YEARS…again waking refreshed and ready to ROAR, even before my alarm clock went off. THEN it HIT me….the REASON I felt SO much BETTER, SO RESTED in just 2 days on LIMU was that I didn’t experience nocturia. I was told several years ago I was borderline diabetic and had the typical symptoms of having to get up to pee 3-4 times a night and was always tired. That might not sound significant but imagine going from feeling exhausted every day, needing a nap in the afternoon, to getting RENEWED VIBRANT ENERGY back and feeling that way all day!

Some people take sleeping well for granted…until they have issues…they may even resort to alcohol or sleeping pills which are DANGEROUS (read more about the dangers of pharmaceutical drugs on my health page), or both, which as we know from so many celebrity deaths can be LETHAL.

Well, LIMU works consistently and it’s SAFE – even for babies (as my friend Miranda can tell you since starting her 5-month-old on LIMU original!!! Miranda commented on a FB post, “He also had a bad cold and was wheezing because of it. No more wheezing and no more coughing up stuff! After just 2 baby doses! I love this stuff!”  I might add, if the baby is sleeping YOU are sleeping or able to get things DONE!

I got a great night’s sleep last night and I’m ready to tackle the world!  ROAR!!! And it’s not even 8 o’clock on a Saturday morning!!

But what was most remarkable is that my vision problems which had gotten to the point that I thought I was going blind and had severe night blindness resolved in only 3 days.  (Please see January 21 and January 28, 2014 entries for the complete story.)

I always thought my daughter Ally would be the healthy one.  She was breastfed until she was almost in kindergarten despite family criticism. She is now almost 17 and has never even had so much as an antibiotic or an ear infection. She knows to take Echinacea and to use the neti pot at the first sign of a sniffle. She’s a health nut like me.

But, looking back there were signs of trouble even before she began having stomach issues. She seemed to crave peppermint which has a soothing effect on the stomach, but also relaxes the sphincter of the stomach and can cause problems with regurgitation.

Almost as soon as Ally started school she had stomach aches with all that entails. But she didn’t start public school until the second grade when we moved from Honolulu, Hawaii to Houston, Texas. In Honolulu she ate well, never drank soda and drank a lot of water. Corn isn’t eaten there, unlike on the mainland, and fresh fruit and veggies are abundant. Ally was never given corn because I stopped eating it in 1977.

She’s a junior in high school now and I can’t believe I didn’t put two and two together before this year, but I didn’t. During every school year, she would complain of her stomach hurting. I would ask about her bathroom habits, but it was not something she wanted to discuss. At times she would vomit or tell me she had diarrhea, but it was more frequent than “normal”.

Certain foods would exacerbate the problem. She couldn’t eat things like Taco Bell (corn) which we didn’t eat often but when we did she immediately got sick.

As the years went by, the problem worsened. Summers would be fine but as soon as she started back to school, she would be sick all over again. Within weeks there would be complaints of her stomach hurting. I thought it might be more related to puberty and menstruation, but that wasn’t the case.  We saw several doctors who didn’t know what was causing the vomiting and diarrhea.

I finally decided to take matters into my own hands and in June 2013, got Ally on brown seaweed. NO MORE PROBLEMS within days, that is until she went back to school and began eating corn based foods again. In January, I decided to allow her to go to school online. I began giving her 6-8 oz of brown seaweed daily, including berry smoothies. In just a few days her stomach issues subsided and she’s been fine since.

In her own words:

Hi….my name is Ally Wilcox and I am 16.  For as long as I can remember I’ve had stomach problems.  I can’t eat the things my friends are able to eat when we go out and I used to miss a LOT of school due to pain in my stomach, diarrhea, and vomiting, which was very embarrassing. The doctors didn’t know why this was happening.  I was frustrated and so was my mom and my teachers.  My school work was suffering also.  My mom got me on Fucoidan which comes from brown seaweed in June 2013 and I became a promoter so am earning money for college. I work with my mom and do health and job fairs as well as experience parties.

I noticed within the first 2 days that I wasn’t feeling nauseated or having pain anymore.  The vomiting and diarrhea also stopped. I kept expecting to feel bad, but I felt GREAT!

I’ve been drinking brown seaweed now for about 10  months and no more problems or pain as long as I’m eating plenty of good food and stay away from corn. I love having my own business at 16 and being with great people.

Thanks for reading.

Lauren Fat Before

Age 20

I can’t think of anything worse than watching your kids suffer.

For my daughter Lauren, it began early.  When she was 10 months old I was forced to go back to work.  I wanted to continue to try to breast feed, but she refused.  She seemed to be grieving at being left alone with a caregiver and then developed stranger anxiety – only I was the stranger.  I was heartbroken and horrified when a few weeks after returning to work she was clutching the sitter for dear life instead of coming to me.

It was within days of weaning and being around other kids that she got sick.  Ear, throat, upper respiratory infections and pain were the norm and became chronic, but I couldn’t afford to stop working because my husband was attending college.  I was the breadwinner.

For the next two years, the pediatrician’s office was a revolving door.  Lauren was prescribed antibiotic after antibiotic, which I questioned then, and know now, was only weakening her immune system. I had read about the issue of overuse of antibiotics being the cause of super-infections, but if I questioned the physician she was surly and offended.

At two years of age or so, the frequency of Lauren’s illness was such that I was desperate.  I KNEW something had to change.  Her doctor was intelligent, but my gut told me she was over-prescribing antibiotics and giving my daughter unnecessary drugs, but without any medical training and being a first-time mom, I followed doctor’s orders. I only wanted to do what was best for my child.

However, when the situation had gotten to the point of seeing a specialist and a surgeon I KNEW something had to change. I began talking to other parents.  I began reading more on natural remedies.  I stopped the antibiotics. I searched for answers at the library and read Mother Earth News.  One article suggested switching from cow’s milk to goat milk which I did hoping it would be more digestible and less mucous producing.  She showed some improvement but not enough and I took her off dairy except for cheese and yogurt and supplemented with children’s Pac-Man chocolate flavored calcium instead.

a milk

We went to the surgeon for the pre-operative evaluation a few days before surgery was scheduled.  The doctor and a medical student examined her.  The doctor looked first in one ear, then the other and asked what I was doing differently.

I was absolutely honest.  I told him I had stopped the antibiotics, taken her off all milk and dairy for the most part and was giving her supplements.

He just looked at me and said, “Well, I’m not doing surgery on this child.  At this point, she doesn’t need it!”

I was overjoyed.  What great news!  I found a sitter who would stay in my home with her and most of the problems stopped.

But, when she started school the revolving door reopened.  I was in nursing school, single, and struggling just to find child care when.  The bouts of illness were less frequent but seemed more severe when they occurred. Lauren developed allergies in addition to the former complaints.

However, now I had a little more ammunition and knowledge.

One day I picked her up from school.  She just didn’t seem to be acting right, wasn’t eating and was tired.  I took her to the doctor and was told her temperature was normal, her throat and ears looked fine and I was basically just over-reacting.  I asked for a strept screen.  The doctor did one just to pacify me (I know because when I changed doctors I saw his comment from that day.  It said, “Mother INSISTS on strept screen (with INSISTS underlined 3 times) followed by “strept screen positive”.

That began the next leg of our journey.  From kindergarten to 7th grade Lauren was sick a LOT.  More antibiotics were prescribed with each strept infection to prevent secondary issues with strept infection affecting the heart.

At 13 we were in another state and Lauren saw a new pediatrician. He ran a strept screen which came back negative, but I KNEW something was wrong. Indeed, it was a false negative result.  Then one day she told me she had an extremely painful nodule on her leg.  She has just started shaving her legs so I thought it was a minor skin infection until in the next few days there were dozens. I was terrified and returned to our home state for help.  The pediatrician we’d been seeing was concerned.  She said, “Susanna, I think I know what this is but I want to look something up in my office.  I’ll be right back.”

I think I actually held my breath until she returned and told me, “I think this is Erythema Nodosum (EN) It’s something like mono in that it can resolve in a few months or it can become chronic. I’d like to have you see a specialist.”

The next doctor specialized in infectious disease. I worked with her for years in ICU and trusted her expertise. She told me there really wasn’t any treatment except palliative or treating the symptoms. We were no closer to a resolution despite her knowledge.  We traveled to see yet another specialist, this time a rheumatologist at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. When I realized that trip was more for the benefit of medical students to see a relatively rare disease process, I was dismayed and disgusted!

Next we saw a pain specialist.  E. Nodosum is an auto-immune disorder that usually affects women between the ages of 15 and 33 and causes swelling within the lymphatic vessels. Causes are varied and may be linked to either a primary infection or hormones. In about 30-50% of cases, the cause is unknown (idiopathic). It is described in medical books as “exquisitely painful”. Not much has changed in the treatment for the last 70 years. Lauren was prescribed narcotic after narcotic, even morphine in an effort to control the pain. She was given NSAID’s (Ultram and Vioxx) but the side effects were horrible. Nothing worked without also affecting her level of consciousness and ability to do school work. Eventually, the pain specialist suggested epidurals with cortisone and an anesthetic. She had two treatments and each was worse than any benefits. The first was injected into the wrong space of the spinal cord and caused severe back pain and both caused severe hypotension. The pain would subside for a few days but she began having blood pressure issues and fainting.

Depression was another factor and Lauren was prescribed various antidepressants. She was beginning to take some responsibility for her illness and was looking up one drug in the Physician’s Desk Reference (PDR) and showed me that the drug prescribed was known to cause EN. Thank God she caught the physician’s mistake before taking.  Some of the anti-depressants caused her to become manic then fall into a deeper depression. Lauren became suicidal.

When there was an emergency there wasn’t one doctor that could see her unless the problem fell under that physician’s particular specialty. It seemed we were in a downward spiral.

I had remarried just before Lauren acquired EN.  My new husband traveled and talked us into moving with him to Virginia.  There were some benefits. The school system there provided excellent home bound schooling because of her illness.  I participated and made sure she was getting her education. We immediately found a pediatrician once we arrived, but she felt overwhelmed with the complexity of Lauren’s problems and we were sent to a specialist named Dr. Christos Gabriel, a pediatric rheumatologist at Children of the King’s Daughter Hospital in Norfolk. Finally, I had found a physician who didn’t balk at treating the whole child rather than his “specialty” and felt we might finally get things under control.  She showed some improvement at last.

But, the family situation was extremely strained and within 4 or 5 months we were on our way back to Arkansas and the same situation we had been enduring with doctors who couldn’t see the forest for the trees.

I had no idea how close I came to losing my child. She told me later she thought about suicide all the time.  She’d been addicted to prescription narcotics and without my knowing had started to smoke cigarettes.  She began seeing a cardiologist for arrhythmia. I had been told EN can cause irreversible damage to many organs.  The nightmare had begun again.

A good friend or hers was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma about this time. He was going through the usual chemo and radiation as well as stem cell replacement.  I felt lucky things weren’t worse for my own child as I watched Travis improve only to be told his cancer had returned and had been missed on a diagnostic test.  His nearly 3-year battle was lost days before his 21st birthday.

Lauren was hit hard by the loss.  She began acting out which I know was just frustration and grief and the difficulty of being sick for so long.  I had to return to work and she had to watch her baby sister while I worked.

While the EN eventually went into remission, her arthritis did not.  Lauren was still in pain.  I attended massage school to be able to work on my own child.  It was one of the few things that gave her any relief.

I had also begun doing my own research. I learned that Erythema nodosum is very similar to Erythema Nodosum Leprosum (ENL)! Leprosy! In fact, the photographs of patients with leprosy looked just like Lauren’s. I began my research and learned that the 1960′s drug Thalidomide was successfully being used in the treatment of ENL so, if that was the case then why not EN? I began by contacting the drug company and was told if the drug was going to be used the hospital, pharmacy, and all pharmacists would have to be certified. Lauren would have to either be on birth control or abstinent, which wasn’t a problem and would have to sign a disclaimer stating she would not get pregnant and if she did would not hold the drug company responsible for damage to the fetus.

Thalidamide babies

At 20 Lauren was in remission, going to college, married, and pregnant. Thank GOD she went into remission and we did not begin Thalidomide treatment which causes severe birth defects!

I was living in Honolulu, Hawaii and had met a doctor, a board certified dermatologist who had successfully treated EN with Potassium Iodide (KI).  It was while I was there, that new issues with my daughters health began.

During her pregnancy, she began having issues with fibroid cysts in her breasts.  Cancer was suspected but ruled out after a lumpectomy although not before we were told initially it was malignant!

Eventually, she was in full remission with the EN but from the age of 13 until October of 2012 she suffered intense and chronic pain which affected her sleep, her level of activity, and her entire life. She’d had frequent infections, colds, ear and throat problems, bronchitis, allergies, breast fibroids, heart and kidney problems. The pain made it difficult to work or take care of her son although she is a wonderful mother.  She just didn’t have the energy of someone healthy with an intact immune system.

Then I found fucoidan from brown seaweed.  I heard from other drinkers what it had done for them. I called Lauren and told her she’d be receiving a box of products and to use them.  She was skeptical but started drinking up to 8 oz a day.  Within a few days, the joint inflammation and swelling began to get better. We were talking on the phone several times a day.  Within a couple of weeks, there was a significant improvement in not only her inflammation but she commented that she had fingernails for the first time in her life. She was going home during her lunch break to drink a couple ounces.

She mentioned that she had lost 12 pounds.  I was thrilled and so was she.  At about 6 weeks, I got a phone call.  I thought something might be wrong when she spoke with a quavering voice but what she said made me want to jump for joy!  “Mom….thank you.”  When I asked what she meant, she said, “For getting me on to listen. For the first time in 17 years, I’m not hurting.”

There is nothing better than hearing that your child who has been sick her entire life and extremely sick and in pain for 2 decades is pain-free!

I saw her at Christmas and saw a different person, someone who was beginning to live again and feel hope.  Her allergies were gone. She was not in pain and by the 8th week on Fucoidan she had lost 37 pounds!

While there is nothing worse than knowing your child is in pain, there is nothing better than knowing that pain is gone.  It’s been 18 months and Lauren hasn’t had so much as a cold. She has kept the weight off and is no longer in pain. Her energy is back and she even got a promotion at work. Priceless!

May 3, 2015 ~ Lauren remains in remission. She has days when she has pain – usually due to bariatric pressure or overwork, but those are rare.  She has also kept the weight off, does not need to take sick days from work and  has gotten a promotion. To say I am thrilled would be an understatement~!

November 14, 2015 ~ Lauren is still in remission and doing great. Thank God for Fucoidan~! Today there are over 1300 studies on fucoidan at Pubmed.

Limu YOUR Life

In 2006 almost 2007, I pulled a hamstring on one of my 6-mile runs. I stupidly continued the run. The injury to my hamstring turned into involvement of my Sartorius, then Iliotibial Band Inflammation. I began a personal program of rehab, and against my own intuition, at my sister’s insistence, started taking Advil. I was only masking the problem, not fixing it. I had a chiropractor “adjust” my knee which only made things worse, an athletic trainer overstretched me and tore my lateral patellar ligament, and a physical therapist dislocated both my hips AND as an added bonus one of my shoulders! I saw another chiropractor for my back since I was spending a lot of time on the couch and he, in his infinite wisdom suggested my neck needed adjusting. I left with no relief from my back or shoulder and unable to turn my head in either direction, which wasn’t the problem to begin with!

I decided against letting anyone else try to “help” me. It was up to me.

I started a new program designed to slowly rehab the leg injuries. I made great progress and in about 5 months was running. Then I had a stupid freak accident. I was doing dips between 2 weight benches when my hand slipped off and I came down onto a cement floor shocking both my elbow and shoulder. Not only did I feel stupid, it was another setback since the shoulder moves while running.

So, I started another rehab journey. I was depressed about not being able to run and popping Advil to work out as much as I could. I had also started eating convenience foods (yes drive thru) and putting on weight. A 20-pound weight gain turned into 25.

I moved to a condo with a gym and got back to regular workouts but for some reason my weight wasn’t budging. I had yet another injury, bilateral plantar fasciitis. I finally figured out how to treat THAT injury myself (since the docs were no help) and that’s when I developed “sensitivity” to Advil. I woke up one morning and my feet looked like footballs. I immediately decided it was the Advil and wondered if I had liver damage. I stopped taking the drug. Indeed, the liver panel confirmed my enzymes were elevated.

I continued to gain weight and even while taking supplements to LOSE weight. I gained a whopping 100 pounds over the next couple years despite hours in the gym, eating right and beginning to run again. I went to a doctor who wanted to prescribe diet pills and some supplement. I asked the nurse practitioner what was in the supplement and she didn’t even know!

I found another doctor right away. I asked for a basic thyroid panel (T3, T4, and TSH). I was told my thyroid was “normal”. I asked for a copy of the results. I pointed out that my thyroid result was actually low, but was told it was “low NORMAL”.  This doctor told me it was just a part of aging and also tried to prescribe diet pills. I FIRED that doctor too after telling him that while I hadn’t spent 8 years in medical school, I didn’t NEED to in order to figure out that for an athlete AND personal trainer to gain 100 pounds WHILE working out and eating right was NOT NORMAL!!!.

I continued my search for an answer. My friend Monica introduced me to Fucoidan in June, 2012. I was polite but deleted every email for almost 3 months. I didn’t want to hear about another “juice drink”. Then she sent me a link to www.pubmed.gov., and asked me to search Fucoidan. I did and read several of the studies and immediately called to ask her when I could hear more. I had to wait almost a week.

I went to a meeting on Saturday, Sept 29, having already decided that if Fucoidan did a hundredth of what these studies showed I’d be crazy not to use the product.

Since moving to Houston from Honolulu, I’d also been suffering from allergies I’d never had before and although I’ve never been a sickly person, I didn’t feel good, not like I always have.

I received my products on a Tuesday morning and started drinking LIMU. By the way, at age 53, I not only had a burned out thyroid gland due to overuse of “diet” products (low carb, high sucralose usually) and “Health Supplements” containing sucralose, I thought I was going blind. My vision was so bad, I sought the help of the University of Houston Eye Center and after a 6-hour appointment, l left with absolutely no answers. I was also suffering from severe night blindness that prevented me from driving or even walking the dog after dark. That may not sound like much to deal with but in the big scheme of things it was devastating, especially since my cousin had already gone blind.

ally's eyes edit

On Thursday night, just 3 days after beginning to drink the juice, I attended a party with Quarvey Winbush. Driving over it was still light and I was dreading the drive home when it would be late and dark. I arrived late, was hungry and decided to order food. The room was essentially dark so that “Q” as we call him, could show a video. I picked up the same menu I had struggled with glasses to read in bright daylight the weekend before. It took me a few moments to realize I was not wearing my glasses and could actually read the menu and see as well as I ever had in my whole life. In the middle of his testimonial I blurted out, “Holy S***, I CAN SEE!” Now, you’ve got to understand I was in a room with about half a dozen or more ministers so I turned a little red, but it was the breakthrough that convinced me I was on the right track and that fucoidan works. Driving home after dark was like daylight for the first time in years! I was amazed there could be a 180-degree change in my vision in as little as 3 days but it happened and I’m eternally grateful that my friend introduced me to this wonderful juice.

Now, I’d like to take just a moment of your time to explain everything I’ve told you in terms of WHY.

Good nutrition is like an insurance policy but in this case, it helps you avoid what sets us up to being prone to injuries, and illness. Good nutrition protects our bodies, our tendons, our ligaments – our cells, everything.

Illness can be broken down into 2 categories: Inflammation and problems with our immune systems or a combination of the two.

In my case, I may have already been hypothyroid despite a good diet, but when I started using supplements containing sucralose, known to deplete our natural and necessary stores of Iodine, I may have jump-started the process. I certainly developed inflammation with all the injuries. It didn’t help that I began eating drive-thru hamburgers containing fillers and above all Bromide in the buns, in lieu of good home cooking. Bromide is another Iodine depleting halogen. Even eating well, most people don’t know that our “fresh” foods, meats and veggies and fruits are dunked in, and sprayed with Chlorine as an antibacterial agent. (Google CHLORINE IN OUR FOOD SUPPLY, especially chicken, and baby carrots). Add to that scenario, Fluoride in our water system which is a known poison and another halogen that depletes iodine stores. So, I was set up from every direction through ingesting halogens that depleted my stores of Iodine to HAVE HYPOTHYROIDISM.

Symptoms of Hypothyroidism: (If you have 3 or more symptoms you are likely hypothyroid – I had ~ 20!)

Now, a few facts from The Fourth Treatment for Medical Refugees by Dr. Nobuhiro Yoshimizu, M.D. Ph.D., former director of the Yokohama General Hospital

Remember that one of the issues with and a diagnostic tool for hypothyroidism is determining if a person has a lowered basal temperature. Normal human body temp is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. According to Dr. Yoshimizu, for every 1-degree drop in body temp, there is a 36% drop in immune function, a 12% drop in metabolism, and a 50% decline in enzyme activity.

Let’s examine that. If you are hypothyroid your immune function, and all body functions are drastically compromised. The worse the hypothyroidism the sicker you will be.

You cannot possibly ingest enough iodine from salt to help your thyroid function. It’s impossible, especially since the amount found in iodized salt it not even enough to meet the already TOO LOW RDA, set by our FDA. Plus the American Heart Association discourages the public from eating too much sodium. Iodine not only protects the thyroid and immune system, it protects us from breast, prostate, and other cancers, including but not limited to thyroid cancer.

There is a mountain of information indicating that our need for Iodine is probably 100 times the RDA. Women in Japan who eat seaweed have extremely low occurrence of hypothyroidism or breast cancers. However, if they relocate to the United States their risk of both is equal to an American woman. Interesting, isn’t it?

I’ll leave you to digest these facts. If you have 3 or more symptoms of hypothyroidism you are probably hypothyroid and either need more iodine in your body or a combination of natural thyroid and iodine and of course….LIMU!

There are other issues that should be addressed as we age, such as a decrease of sex hormones, progesterone which begins to wane long before estrogen, and testosterone, but I wanted to touch on thyroid and iodine. There are natural replacements for women that I have found, and am looking into natural solutions for men, although so far natural bio-identical testosterone seems to be the best solution.

So, NOW….the picture may be clearer how so many issues are helped by the liquid seaweed extract. Not only are you getting all the vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino and fatty acids you need, you are getting much needed NATURAL ORGANIC iodine that helps your thyroid function and helps with that long laundry list of symptoms.

When I started drinking LIMU in October 2012, I lost 21 pounds in 21 days. Most of the problems I was experiencing due to low thyroid were gone within that time. Within a year I lost a total of 52 pounds without killing myself in the gym working out for hours or running 40-50 miles a week. I have started running again and I do work out because I feel better and have more energy! I have to say this has been the easiest weight loss I have ever experienced without feeling drained or losing muscle because I am getting all my nutrients in seaweed products including 20 grams of protein per LEAN shake.  In the mornings instead of coffee, I drink Blufrog.  My food bill has gone down by at least 50% and I have replaced about $150 per month in supplements I used to take that weren’t helping and since I shared my experience with 3 friends after my first month I began getting my LIMU FREE and helped them do the same thing.  I LOOK better. I certainly FEEL better and I’m LIVING better thanks to LIMU.  I KNOW I’m going to be using these wonderful products for the rest of my life! Isn’t it time YOU LIMU YOUR LIFE?

When I was a kid in the 70’s I was a typical teenager.  Summertime was spent outside, at a pool, lake, or river. My friends and I used to fry our skin with baby oil and iodine and had the weird orangey glow of an Oompa-Loompa.  Knowing NOW what I know the iodine might have protected my skin but I’m positive I never bothered to put it in delicate places like my ears, a common area for skin cancer.

As an adult, I finally started to listen to what my mother had said, “Susanna, you’d better stop lying out in the sun and protect your skin. You’ll look like an old shoe by the time you’re 30!”  So, I became aware of protecting my skin and started using sunscreen, but again, NOT in my ears. I still tanned some (never in a tanning bed which I knew was dangerous) and I was always outdoors running, canoeing, or sailing. I had a LOT of sun time.

I’m probably lucky I was 54 before I had problems.  In September 2013, I noticed what I thought was just a dry spot on my ear.  I had a friend of mine who is a physician take a look.  He was pretty sure it was basal cell carcinoma.  I was scheduled for a biopsy.

While waiting, I decided to try a little experiment. I had used LIMU topically before with amazing results and had heard of other people doing the same. I knew of the islanders of Tonga using seaweed for just about every ailment, so, I began putting LIMU on a cotton pad and placing it over the lesion with a little tape to hold it in place. Within a few days I noticed the area was softer; then it began to loosen and lift from the surrounding skin.  I had my daughter take a photograph the day I found it so I could see what it looked like.  Within a week or so the lesion was attached only in its center. A day or so later it had dried up and simply fell off leaving a pink dot in the middle surrounded by new pink skin. We photographed the process.

When my physician friend saw me next he was amazed and felt there was no need to biopsy at that point.  He asked if I had used anything on the area and I admitted I had used LIMU which contains fucoidan.  After looking fucoidan up at www.pubmed.gov he asked how he could get LIMU for himself and his wife. He explained to me that from what he had read LIMU was similar in composition to  our own lymph. I simply told him LIMU Is the best nutrition available and then shared how he could LIMU wholesale just like I do.

I’m just glad that whatever the annoying lesion in my ear was (and I feel he was right about his initial opinion) it’s gone now!

I’ve since used the same procedure on similar areas with the same results. I love that a natural, organic food can be ingested or used topically.  I use LIMU on my face and so far at 55 don’t even have any wrinkles!

January 21, 2014

About 5 years ago my retina seemed determined to try to detach. I saw the world through streaks of brown. Surgery was not required but it was scary. I was taking statistics in order to go back to school for my nurse practitioner degree. Driving became more difficult and so did studying. I had headaches.

Fast forward a few years ~ I went to the University of Houston Eye Center. I was going blind. My vision had gotten much worse and I had stopped running, especially at night due to severe night blindness. Driving at night was a nightmare. I stopped writing, one of my passions. UHEC kept me for 6 hours for that appointment. They even did laser mapping at no charge to me because they were stumped. The doctor sent me home without a prescription, and without any answers. I was told to come back in 1 month.

My friend Monica introduced me to brown seaweed juice shortly after. She was not aware of my vision issues ~ I hadn’t even told my family. She’d been inviting me to learn about seaweed for 3 months, even told me it was 100% organic and gluten free as well as a super food, but being a hardheaded Irish/Indian and thinking it was “just another juice” I didn’t bother, UNTIL she sent me a link to pubmed.gov.

I had no idea it would affect my eyes. What interested me were the studies on cancer and HOW IT WORKS IN THE BODY to improve the immune system. I began reading (even using a magnifying device on my computer so I could see.) I had to wait a week to go to a party to taste LIMU. It was AWESOME!  Fruity and I was told all the nutrition needed in just a few ounces a day.  In fact, I sampled Original, Blufrog, and the meal replacement shake in both vanilla and Dutch chocolate. I was impressed that it tasted good and wasn’t chalky. The Blufrog seemed to cut my appetite and give me energy, something I noticed after leaving the party.  Later that day I did have the typical energy drink “crash”.

I became a promoter that day at the business builder level with a $499 Fast Track Pack because was a one time purchase and I got advertising materials and sample products to begin my business and share with friends and tax deductions for having a home-based business.  Great move!

My product arrived on Tuesday and I began drinking 4-6 oz a day. I was using a Blufrog in the morning which has 2 oz of Original in the products. Some days I drank Lean instead of having a meal.

On Thursday, I attended a training party at the same venue. I had been using the products just 3 days. The party was held in the evening and I knew I would have to drive home at night, but I went anyway. I arrived late and sat near the fireplace, the only light in the room other than Qaurvey Winbush’s 10 inch Ipad. I was hungry and wanted to order food. I opened the menu and began reading. I was halfway down the menu when I realized I didn’t need my magnifying glasses!

The next thing that happened is a little embarrassing since half the people there were ministers, but like a good Catholic I blurted out, “Holy S***” I can SEE!” Gasps around the room….I hid behind the menu and wanted to point at Monica, but I refrained. The story is funny now and told at many parties, but since my vision took an 180-degree turn I want to shout it from the rooftops! Need to mention also, driving home was like daytime and it was such a relief! Still hard to believe a natural product can work this way, but it does.

Since that time, I’ve had friends who use seaweed report going from Trifocals to single vision lenses in a month on  and met a woman who was almost blind in one eye who had results much like mine.

There are MANY more reasons according to the independent studies to drink seaweed: decreased inflammation, antibacterial, anti-viral, anti-aging (I’m 55 and am told every day I don’t look 40) anti-cancer.  I encourage you to begin researching fucoidan for yourself.  Just go to www.pubmed.gov and search fucoidan so see how many independent, 3rd party studies have been done.  I also suggest using www.inkling.com which is an advanced search engine for business and science.  I found medical textbooks and other medical journals with references to fucoidan.

Since these are such exceptional products, joining this company has also been a BLESSING to my family as far as finances. I needed another stream of revenue as did both my daughters so we are a whole superfood FAMILY!!

Here to tell you TODAY I’m happy ~ I’m writing (a LOT) ~ and running again. I can drive without the feeling I might kill someone or myself. The last guy who asked me out is 30 and has no idea I’m 55. And I want to just say this…if you have ANY health issues give better nutrition a try for at least 90 days (the time it takes to repair cellular DNA according to published studies).

If you are not satisfied with your income, ask me how you can CHANGE THAT SITUATION!! I did and am very glad my friend Monica didn’t give up on inviting me to LISTEN! Ask me how you can FEEL BETTER ~ LIVE BETTER ~ BE BETTER!

LIMU Share edit

This is my first blog for this site although I write all the time and use social media like Facebook a lot.  But I decided to start blogging on the site, after all, who knows if one day FB will go the way of MySpace and what I write will poof off into an internet black hole.

I’d like to share a story about a significant turning point in my life that occurred on the weekend of October 13, 2012

I was at a Fall Festival in Ruston, Louisiana with about 500 of my closest friends (and LIMU family). Just call me “Grace” but I tripped and fell over a stump and ripped open my lower left leg. I could even see bone. (Pic 1) I was quickly going into shock but managed to get up to my friends Shannon & Rachette Pardue’s house.  It was the weekend and I couldn’t find a doctor. I also knew they would just clean it (which I had done, painfully so) and tell me to go to the doctor in Houston. I was afraid I would be looking at skin grafts at some point in time.

I stayed with my sister an hour away…that night didn’t get any sleep because of the incredible pain. I kept the would clean and dry. On Monday morning I had a tetanus shot at Walgreen’s before leaving for Houston. Traveling 6 hours was no fun. The following day I had a raging infection. I remembered what Salien Liles, a 500K promoter in LIMU said as I drove away….”Hey, girl, put some fucoidan on that!!!” and she gave me a travel size package of Original. Well, being a nurse I thought…naaaaa….i should be drinking it so it works systemically. However, when it got infected (Pic 2) I remembered what she said and how my friend Monica’s dad had saved his leg from a brown recluse bite using brown seaweed so, I poured it on cotton pads and wrapped it and finally got some sleep.

When I woke the next day I felt rested and better, the leg wasn’t throbbing or even red and the swelling was going down…THEN I TOOK OFF THE BANDAGE!!! OMG…it looked at is it had never been infected….or a doctor had debrided it. (Pic 3) I was amazed!

But I ran out of LIMU before my monthly shipment came in and not having it was a mistake…I got a BAD CASE OF CELLULITIS (Pic 4) and the pain and swelling returned. Once my juice came in I started applying it immediately.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. The next two photos were taken on the same day about 10 days after my initial injury. They are ONLY 3 HOURS APART….I had to speak at a friend’s funeral that afternoon.  I wanted to work out, so I did a quick dressing change with fucoidan (Pic 5 at 7am Oct 27) and hurried to the gym.  When I got home 3 hours later and took of the bandage to shower this is what I saw. (Pic 6 at 10 am Oct. 27) See the difference???

I’ve been a nurse for 25 years and I’ve never seen an antibiotic work that fast. NEVER!!! I know there are natural, remedies that work because I’ve used various homeopathic remedies for years, but this was incredible!

I’ve got a few skeptical friends (who are coming around) and a LOT of skeptical family members that I just WISH would realize what I’ve found and join me in sharing this….and if YOU haven’t done your homework on LIMU and FUCOIDAN yet, you SHOULD.  The last photo was taken today, January 18, 2014. I never took an antibiotic or even a pain pill.  I did have a tetanus shot on Oct 15.  I wanted everyone to see that despite some slight scarring (which will eventually go away), I’m fine.  (Pic 7 – January 18, 2014)

“Brown seaweed products are not drugs and have not been evaluated by the FDA. They are simply dietary supplements and are not intended to diagnose, cure or treat any illness or disease. We, therefore, promote brown seaweed products for their benefit on the immune.”
